The administration of Oro Valley United Church Of Christ is vested in the Church Council. The Council sets policy, makes day-to-day decisions and delegates responsibilities to the appropriate groups in the Church Organization. Calling a Pastor, making changes in the By-Laws and approving the annual budget require action by the total Congregation. The Pastor meets with the Council and has "voice and not vote" at these meetings.
Council members are elected from and by the members of the congregation for one-year terms and may be re-elected for a maximum of three contiguous terms. Officers are elected by the Council following the January Annual Congregational Meeting. The Council meets on a selected Monday evening each month. Visitors from the Congregation are always welcome at these meetings.
Statement of Faith of the Oro Valley United Church Of Christ:
This Church acknowledges Jesus Christ as its sole head and recognizes the Bible as the sufficient rule of faith and practice. Each member shall have the undisturbed right to follow the Word of God according to the dictates of his or her own conscience, under the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit.
Believing in the freedom and responsibility of the individual soul and the right of private judgment, we have adopted the Statement of Faith of the United Church of Christ as our own expression of faith.
Autonomy of the Local Church:
The autonomy of the Local Church is inherent and modifiable only by its own action. Nothing in this Constitution and the Bylaws of the United Church of Christ shall destroy or limit the right of each Local Church to continue to operate in the way customary to it.
While this Church is not subject to any ecclesiastical body outside this Church, it accepts the obligations of membership and mutual cooperation involved in the free fellowship of the churches of the Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ (www.southwestucc.org) and pledges itself to share their common aims and work.
