Music Ministry

Jose Solorzano, pianist and music director is the soul of our congregation. His talent is beyond measure, in keeping with his personality and character. Jose performs concerts and recitals as well as music for our services of worship. At present Mr. Solorzano is creating a calendar of events, involving a number of individual performers and groups.

Music has been an important part of what Oro Valley United Church Of Christ is about, from the very beginning. The following is excerpted from our then yet unnamed newsletter:

Full House at Dedication Service

Music for the service was varied and outstanding. In addition to our own Jose Solorzano, pianist, and our choir, there were vocal solos by Edith Schuman, a Clarinet trio, Emtiga, consisting of Gary Morris, Tina Sherrod and Emmy Lou Modrzjewski. Jesse Smith treated everyone to a gospel medley on the Vibes. Christine Vivona, Harpist, and Priscilla Small, Flutist, played a duet and also accompanied the choir. A special thank you to Cheryl Ritenbaugh for all the beautiful music.

Concerts

Several years back, Oro Valley United Church Of Christ had an opportunity to hear a symphonic music program when Peter and Virginia Sorensen brought their group, Orchestra DaChiesa to our church. This was a wonderfully received program attended by over 200 people. Getting over 50 players in the sanctuary was a great logistical challenge, but in the end it was well worth it as everyone thoroughly enjoyed the program.

Piano Recitals

Jose Solorzano performs piano solo recitals at Oro Valley United Church Of Christ. The most recent was on April 1, 2007. This program included music from Beethoven, Liszt, Ponce and Albeniz.

Special music centered services

Music helps us center our thoughts in worship. On several occasions Cara Marcelle organized Contemporary Praise Music Services. Joy and excitement were abundant at these services. Drums, guitars, electronic keyboards and choir all united in a great song of worship.
